Tricia Guiguet has stepped down as President of CVRS for health reasons. We are grateful for all she gave to the role. During her brief term she arranged an excellent roster of speakers for the coming year, and we will all enjoy the results of that work at our meetings. We wish her well…

October Propagating Workshop a Great Success
Carrie generously shared her knowledge and expertise, guiding us step-by-step through the propagation process and offering invaluable tips to give our cuttings the best chance of success.
The Might of the Quercus (Oak)
The Quercus, or Oak tree, has been identified as one of the most favourable trees to plant as we face ongoing climate change in our future. In a presentation in Qualicum Beach several years ago, Douglas Justice of the University of British Columbia, hailed the oak tree, the Quercus species as the most reliable tree capable of surviving and thriving in a challenging future.
Wind Chill Effect on Rhododendrons
Wind can increase the evaporation of soil moisture, thus speeding drying and making water harder for the plant to obtain. It also speeds evaporation of moisture from the plant leaves and bark. The faster the wind, the faster the moisture is lost.
The Magnificent Young Toona Must Go
The young, majestic, and towering Toona sinensis in the Greig Rhododendron Species Garden must be removed by an arborist. In just a few years, it has outgrown its allotted space.
Rhodo Care-Calendar November
When I first joined the Society, I learned that Alan and Sandy Campbell had owned a large property and had recently downsized to a smaller property and garden. I found their transition story interesting because I was trying to make my own yard and garden more manageable and easier to maintain. So to continue our monthly article series, I connected with them to get their thoughts on November rhodo care, and their insights on garden transitions.
