Silver Medal Award
Alan Campbell is recognized for his outstanding contributions to the Genus Rhododendron and the international and local rhododendron communities.
Alan Campbell is awarded the “long overdue” Silver Medal after many years of outstanding contributions in the rhododendron community.
Alan Campbell of the Cowichan Valley Rhododendron Society receives the ARS Silver Medal Award. With him are Glen Jamieson, District 1 Director; Verna Buhler of the CVRS; and Marlen Jacobs, Western Vice-President of the American Rhododendron Society.
The award was presented on April 25, 2026, following the banquet at the ARS 2026 Spring Convention on Vancouver Island.
This prestigious Silver Medal Award reads:
“Alan Campbell has been a major long-time advocate for rhododendrons in District 1 and beyond. He has an extensive knowledge of rhododendrons, which he readily shares with other gardeners, and has been very active in both the initial development of the Greig Rhododendron Species Garden and its expansion to contain more large-leaved rhododendrons. In particular, he is a key member of the Greig Garden Advisory Committee, being responsible for coordinating the acquisition of rhododendrons. He has been an active participant in the hosting of ARS conventions and conferences in the district, and regionally, has been a Board member of the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden Washington for many years. In summary, the ARS is pleased to present its Silver Medal to Alan Campbell.”
The Cowichan Valley Rhododendron Society members congratulate and thank you for your superb work over so many years.
